Used camera bodies, tested and graded

Used mirrorless and DSLR bodies from Sony, Canon, Nikon, Fujifilm and Panasonic, from the Sony α6000 to the Nikon D850 and Canon EOS R6. Every body is tested before it is listed: shutter count read and recorded, sensor checked for dust and stuck pixels, autofocus and stabilization tested where the camera has them, screen and viewfinder inspected, and every card slot and port tried. Shipping to Kenya or Nigeria? Both limit the age of imported used electronics, so we check each model’s release year before we quote. The grade describes cosmetic condition; the function checks are the same at every grade.

Age limits. Kenya limits imported used electronics to 12 years old and Nigeria to 15, counted from the day each unit was made. Tell us your destination and we check every body’s manufacture date before we quote, so you are only offered bodies inside the limit. Model ages

“Check each body” means the model is older than the limit, so early bodies are out but later ones may be in. We read the manufacture date on every unit before quoting.

What we check on every camera body

On a camera body the numbers that matter are the shutter count and the state of the sensor. A unit that fails a check is not graded.

Record

  • Shutter countRead with a shutter-count tool and recorded for each body.
  • Firmware and serial numberFirmware version recorded; serial number recorded and matched to the body.

Image

  • SensorTest frames checked for dust, stuck and hot pixels. Sensor cleaned if needed and checked again.
  • AutofocusTested across the frame with a test lens, in single and continuous modes; face and eye detection on bodies that have it.
  • In-body stabilizationOn bodies that have it, such as the Sony α7 III, Canon EOS R6 and Panasonic Lumix GH5: handheld test frames at slow shutter speeds, stabilization on and off.
  • Shutter and exposureShutter fired across its speed range and in burst; aperture control tested with a lens.
  • VideoClip recorded at the highest resolution the body supports, with sound from the built-in microphone.

Screens and controls

  • Rear screenChecked for dead pixels; touch response and hinge tested where fitted.
  • ViewfinderElectronic viewfinders checked for dead pixels and eye-sensor switching; optical viewfinders for dirt and haze; diopter adjustment tested.
  • Buttons and dialsEvery button, dial and switch operated.
  • WirelessWi-Fi or Bluetooth pairing with the maker’s app tested on bodies that have it.

Mount, slots and power

  • Lens mountMount checked for wear and loose screws; contacts cleaned.
  • Card slots and portsEvery card slot reads and writes. USB, HDMI, microphone, headphone and hot-shoe contacts tested where fitted.
  • Battery and chargingBattery charges and holds charge through the test session.
  • Kit lensesWhen sold as a kit: glass checked for haze, fungus and scratches; autofocus, zoom and aperture blades tested.
